- Hi I'm Tara Shakespeare, celebrity makeup artist. Today I'm going to show you how to apply makeup if you're in your 40s. When thinking about what makeup to use in your 40s, it's very different to the makeup we used to use when we were 20. You want to take a bit more care in the application of your products and the quality of product that you use is going to be much better. So you want to have a much more polished look when you're in your 40s. So today on Zia I'm going to be using L'Oreal Paris Studio Secrets, the One Step Eye Shadow in Playful for all eyes. So I've already prepped Zia's skin with a really nice foundation, a little bit of blush and some mascara so before I apply eye shadow I like to conceal and then powder the eyelids so I've concealed. I'm just going to give her a little bit of powder just on her lids, this is just so that your eye shadow works perfectly and you don't get any creases or excess product. Okay, so I'm going to just take our product, our one sweep eye shadow, now this comes with a one sweep applicator brush and so you can see you've got a three band of color here and the darker color goes just along your eyelash and the mid tone in the middle and the lighter tone is your highlight and so you get the eye shadow applicator and you just press firmly and rub backwards and forwards so you get a great coverage of shadow of coverage on your brush. So you can see already I've got highlight, mid tone and then a dark tone and so you can see this one would be for Zia's right eye so I'm just going to press along here and then just drag it out, just sweep it out. So you can see it's slightly clumped in the middle so you can always work that out with a clean brush. Okay take a clean eye shadow brush and I'm just going to blend that little bit out. So then if you make any mistakes underneath so you can see the little bit falling underneath, we can clean that up later with a Q tip. So we take the applicator and then brush it the other way so we're going for the other eye. So again just backwards and forwards so you get a nice amount of product on the brush. So just close and so we're just going to sweep that along and I'm going to take my clean brush and I'm just going to blend that. So when you're putting makeup on in your 40s, you want to make sure that you lift, so just close your eyes for me, so you lift your brown and apply. This way you don't get any product in any creases and it all goes on nice and smoothly. So as you can see, I've given Zia a really nice foundation base. I've given her some lovely apricot cheeks and then we've paired it with a lovely golden almost shimmery eye shadow and so there you are, that's how to apply makeup when you're in your 40s.
