- Hi I'm Hilda Levierge. I'm a professional makeup artist and today I'm going to teach you how to apply bold mascara. So everybody loves to apply mascara and have it really define the eyes and really shape, it really frames the eyes when you apply mascara but one of the big problems when applying bold mascara is you're using so much that it actually starts to drip down under the eye. What I love about the Maybelline XXL 24 Hour Bold Mascara, is it actually has a second step where you apply a sealant to your lashes so it's going to keep it from traveling under the eye which is a common problem. So before we apply mascara, what I like to do first is curl the lashes. This is just going to open up the eyes, so just look down and just lift up your eye brow a little bit and just put the curler just right up to the root of the lashes. Get as close as you can without pinching yourself and just press down and just hold for a few seconds. Curling the lashes is really a great way to make your eyes look awake and a lot of women, unless you have curly hair, our lashes tend to go straight especially as we age so curling them really helps to just really open up the eyes. I always curl before I put mascara on. You can also curl if your mascara is fully dry, but definitely beforehand. So now that we've curled our eyelashes, we're going to apply the first step and we're just going to wiggle at the base of the lashes. We're just going to wiggle the mascara into those lashes and that's going to create thickness and then just by swooping it up and out, that will create length. And I'm just going to try and get every little individual lash here which is really easy to do with this great brush that they have. Now I'm just going to put one layer on the bottom lashes so just look up with your eyes and just lightly wiggle. You don't even need to use mascara on the bottom but since we're going to be able to seal the mascara in, I think it's safe to use it on the bottom. It usually travels on most people and creates raccoon eyes, so that's something we want to avoid. So our second step is to apply the sealant. So this is going to keep your mascara from traveling and keep you from getting the dreaded raccoon eyes. Mascara tends to flake off during the day and we're rubbing our eyes and it can travel really easily so this is just such a great way to keep it fresh all the time. I'm just going to coat each lash and just look up and then I'll just coat, just a little bit on the bottom also. Another tip when applying mascara is to not do a pumping motion. That actually brings in a lot of air to the product and it will make it dry out faster. So you just need to dip the brush in and just get a little bit of product and just look up, okay perfect. So there you have it, that's the best way to apply bold mascara. Thanks for watching. I'm Hilda Levierge.
