- Hi, I'm celebrity hairstylist, Darico Jackson and today I'm going to show you how to get African-American hair really straight. So as you can see we've already gotten started here. We're going to start with the Mizani Thermasmooth Smooth Guard Smoothing serum. Take just a few pumps, maybe like a dime size or so. You don't want to use too much because you don't want to weigh it down but you do want to have enough so that you can evenly distribute it through there because it's going to go in and it's going to seal that cuticle so that the hair will stay straight and keep the frizz out. So when you're straightening hair I like to start at the bottom but you might want to start where it's more comfortable for you. You're going to take a small section and you're going to go into the base as close as you can so that it's straight from scalp to end and then you just slide it on down. If your hair is extra curly and very coarse you might want to go in two or three times, maybe even four. If your hair is very thick, you might want to take smaller sections just to ensure that you get every strand straight and you might even want to add a little bit more tension because thick hair, thick coarse hair is very resistant. So even though I'm going to go in really really close to the scalp, you don't want to put it on the scalp because obviously you don't want to burn yourself. The product is very very important and I can't reiterate that more because the product is going to keep you from burning the hair and challenging the integrity of your hair. You know sometimes when you straighten your hair and you get it really straight, you lose your curl when it's time to shampoo it back, well by using products like the smooth guard serum, it protects the hair so that not only does it not revert but when you do get ready to shampoo it, you can go back to its natural state. So if you notice I'm kind of turning the flatiron a little bit, just to create a little volume and a little style and when you get to the fringe area, although she has this part down the middle, I still like to bevel it forward just like as if I were going to give her a bang and then comb it back. It creates a nice little bend in the front to accent the face. So there you have it. Morgan's hair is very silky and very straight. And that's how you get African-American hair really straight. I'm Darico Jackson. Thanks for watching.
