Day 1: Fall 2012 Trends Take Shape.
By: Laurie Brucker
Isn't it funny how the Spring has barely sprung and the excitement of fall fashion comes rushing in! Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week Fall 2012 collections have kicked off with some serious fall style. This may be our chic-est fall to date! Already spotted are fabulous coats, skinny crops, midi skirts, fur, colorblocking (yes again), neons (yes again), and my personal favorite fall booties. Here is a look at the top three trends sprouted on day one. They are very fall forward, but keep them in mind, you're going to want to make these investments the minute fall drops its first leaf.

Fur Sleeves. Could a jacket be any cooler with contrast fur sleeves? This trend we actually saw emerge last season, but just as colorblocking was and still is important, fabric blocking will be next. So as fabrics are getting patched together it only makes sense to have just our sleeves be fur, right? Now for styling at home, this isn't for the fashion faint hearted. And this is definitely a single season style. But with faux fur and "vegan" fur giving real fur a run for its money, expect to see this warm statement jacket hit the market like a fabulous winter storm.

Leather Dresses. Leather has been trending for the past few seasons, trickling in here and there with a skirt, top or jacket. But this fall, it's evolved into leather dresses. These timeless pieces are an expensive but a worthwhile investment for the fall. What I particularly love is that we are seeing them in all shapes which means leather can work for all body types. Just remember always flatter your waistline. A leather full skirt adds some body to smaller hips. And a leather sheath like at Jenni Kayne gives structure to a slim frame. Go for a neutral and you'll be wearing leather into next spring. Just take off the layers!

Acidic Yellow and Grey. If you remember from last season I have a slight obsession for color, which is why I'm so excited to see this color combination rise in the trend ranks. The best part is that it's colors we already have in our wardrobes, therefore it's the easiest trend to jump on. Just take your acid yellow pieces you've been wearing for spring and pair them with grey. Instant style! Whether you go light grey or dark grey you can't go wrong. For this spring go with a bold contrast color shoe, like teal, orange or purple. Once fall hits, move to dark red, wine and classic black.
Until tomorrow fashionistas!
xoxo,
Laurie
