All the Elegance Backstage at Tadashi Shoji
By Shyema Azam
Backstage at Tadashi Shoji yesterday was a little more calm than the Richard Chai show I went to earlier, but there was still some serious, ethereal magic happening in the beauty department. MAC’s Senior Artist, Luc Bouchard, said the look was simple but romantic with peachy-based eyes that rounded out to their cheeks and lips.

"It’s like a girl who was just kissed by a tulip," he says. The tulip inspiration was apparent in the beautiful, flowing dresses I saw backstage and later on the runway.
Using MAC’s new Matchmaster Foundation (coming out this month), he created a soft, dewy look for the girls. The foundation is like “Photoshop in reality,” he says – a see-through consistency so your real skin color shines through and looks much more natural.
Meanwhile, Redken hairstylist Rodney Cutler created gorgeous waves accessorized by fishtail braids wrapped around like a headband.

"Tadashi loves elegance, and we wanted a little hippie-ness to the look,” he explains. “The fishtail braids give the style a little more drama, and make it a little more unique."
In between getting their makeup and hair done, models were reading or doing fittings. I caught up with model Jefimija about some of her Fashion Week experience so far:
Where are you from? Serbia
How old are you? 16
How long have you been modeling for? When they found me it was two years ago, but I started traveling only since January.
What time did you wake up today? 5 AM
Is this your first show? No, this is my second show today. I had to be at my first show, Nicholas K., by 6 AM.
What did you eat for breakfast this morning? Oatmeal with apple and cinnamon.
What’s your favorite part about Fashion Week? Doing the shows...being on the runway.
What’s your least favorite thing? Castings and being tired.
What do you do to prepare for Fashion Week? I work out all the time to keep my shape. I go to the gym or jog outside.
What do you do between shows? Between my two shows today, I had an hour so I just went for a walk. But usually between shows I have fittings and castings so I’m busy all the time.
What does a model not leave home without during Fashion Week? My portfolio and heels. You can’t leave the apartment without them!
