BebeBlack Runway Show and Meeting Jersey Shore's Sweetest
By Shyema Azam
I went to go check out the Bebe runway show for their bebeBlack collection yesterday -- incidentally, the collection was anything but black. Once the lights popped on, down the runway came models sporting ghostly bleached wigs and all-white attire. In fact, the entire collection was void of color: white flowey dresses, white corsets, white anoraks, white body suits. It was a little unexpected and intriguing coming from a brand whose store windows are lined with mannequins donning sequins, color, and black bandage skirts. Make no mistake though, without anything distracting from the cuts and fit, Bebe’s style game was ON.

With their regal-looking wigs, the models ended up looking very Victorian – as if they were plopped out of the movie "Marie Antoinette" and cast onto the runway, outfitted in the latest mod clothes. Bebe even stepped up its game with fancy fabrics like silk, voile, and sheers.

And this knuckle-brace-handle clutch that I zeroed in on while one of the models was walking down the runway--do I see some Alexander McQueen inspiration?

The best part is, I probably CAN afford it once it’s in stores too! Another delight in attending a fashion show geared to the mass consumer.

I must have completely missed the front row guests though, because afterwards when I was roaming around some of the booths of the sponsors, like Sennheiser and Neuro, I looked up to spot none other than Jersey Shore’s self-described “sweetest b**** you’ll ever meet,” Sammi Sweetheart!

Sammi, wearing a long black cardigan over a patterned-satin dress and of course donning her signature cat-eye makeup, is actually quite easy to miss. She blends in the crowd probably because she wants to. With what I can only describe as a little bit of nervous energy, she scurried from one end of the room to her chair for a quick interview and I actually had to do a triple-take to confirm that it really was her. Of course, when I did, I went photo happy.
I stopped her to ask if I could bother her for a quick picture, with which she shyly looked down and hesitated before saying. “Sure.” So of course, I did.
