The ponytail is here to stay, but that doesn't mean you can't improve on this timeless classic. When your look needs to be chic and sedate, smooth your hair back into a simple ponytail. Glam that 'do by wrapping hair around the ponytail band. This gives instant style to the ponytail, amping it up from the girl next door to sexy and smart.

1.

Work a small amount of hair mousse through your dry hair to help control flyaways.

2.

Brush your hair back into a smooth and sleek ponytail. Position it high at the crown of your head, in the center-back of your head or at the nape of your neck.

3.

Place the elastic hair band around the ponytail once. Before you tighten the elastic hair band, pull out a small section of hair -- about 1/2-inch thick -- from the underside of the ponytail. Finish tightening the hair band around the hair by wrapping the band around it as many times as needed, leaving that small section out.

4.

Take the small section and wrap it around the ponytail once or twice to cover the hair band. Finish wrapping it on the underside of the ponytail and tuck the section into the hair band to secure it.

5.

Arrange the ponytail, making sure the section of hair blends in with the rest of the ponytail.

6.

Spray the ponytail style with the hair spray to hold it.
