Foundation is an essential facial cosmetic that evens out the tone of your skin to make it appear flawless and blemish-free. If you often find your powder, liquid or cream foundation drawing attention to your pores and fine lines, try a whipped, or mousse, foundation. It offers consistent coverage, a lightweight feel and a smooth, luminous finish that makes your wrinkles and pores seem as though they’ve vanished into thin air. Whipped foundation is super easy to apply -- you can use a foundation brush or your fingers to blend it in.

Erno Laszlo

New York pro makeup artist Diana Solomon says Erno Laszlo's Absolute Finish is the best whipped foundation. “It is a mousse with very good coverage that looks natural,” she says. For the best finish, apply to the center of your face and blend out. The water-free formula offers sun protection with SPF 15, and comes in four shades. According to Solomon, the brand is a dermatological skincare line, so the product offers skin-conditioning benefits in addition to flawless coverage.

Sarah Manning, a professional makeup artist from Niantic, Connecticut, says that when her clients want a whipped foundation, the best option is Magic Smooth Souffle by Loreal. “It goes on effortlessly and is very light on your skin. Plus, it’s very affordable," she says. The formula is made for all skin types and is available in 12 colors.

According to Union, New Jersey, makeup artist Victoria Dada, the best mousse foundation available is Maybelline’s Dream Matte Mousse Foundation. “It’s a drugstore foundation but I love the finish and the ease of applying it,” she says. For best results, smooth on a light coating with your fingers or a foundation brush, then build coverage with additional thin layers as needed.

Illuminare Cosmetics

When she’s in need of a whipped foundation for her clients, professional makeup artist Deanna Garcia uses Illuminare Cosmetics foundation. “I use it for my makeup sessions for all occasions. It has iron oxides that are heat-absorbing to give you a flawless, skin-like look,” she says. The formula has sun protection titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, which is the best barrier-type sunscreen and ideal for sensitive skin, according to “Skin Rules” author and celebrity dermatologist in New York, Dr. Debra Jaliman. The foundation comes in three versions ... super-concealing, moisturizing and oil-control.
