Sometimes the same pair of shoes that screamed "cool and unique" in the store just say "huh?" when you get them back to your closet. If you've made an impulse buy like yellow heels, don't fret. There are plenty of fun and interesting ways to wear shoes in a statement color. Before you know it, you'll be patting yourself on the back for taking the leap into lemon.
Retro Style
If your style would fit in on TV's "Mad Men," you're in luck. Punchy, yellow heels are right at home amidst retro elements. Let the pop of color complement a solid shift dress, or allow it to draw out one color in a pattern. Let yellow shine throughout your outfit by working in other yellow accessories in the form of a belt, handbag or jewelry.
Glam Rock
Throw on yellow heels to create a glam-rock-inspired look a la David Bowie. Pair yellow heels with black skinny jeans, and add a top in another attention-grabbing color like electric blue. Throw on a leather jacket and metallic accessories and you've got a look that's ready to rock. A word of advice: Skip the '80s hair. Some styles are better left in the past.
Feminine
It may seem like a stretch, but you can even work yellow into a romantic or understated look. By choosing a shade that's more golden than garish and has natural elements -- think wood heels -- you'll find a pair that will look great with a floral frock. Pair it with ballerina pink (or any muted color, for that matter) or a pattern with a similar golden hue. Allow the shoes to be the statement piece, and keep other elements understated.
Summer-y Citrus
Citrus shades are always in for summer, so pair yellow heels with white and other bright tones. Either choose an all-white outfit and add in shades of lime or orange in the accessories, or try white bottoms with a geometric, patterned top. Avoid wearing only one bright color, as this can look boring. Create depth by wearing bright shades of at least two of the following (extra credit if you can work in three): yellow, green, orange and blue.
