A stylish pair of Wellington boots, also known as rain boots or wellies, will be smart to own for every season. The most obvious occasion to wear Wellington boots is on a rainy day, but there are a handful of other situations that make wellies functional and fashionable. Classic Wellington boots are usually a hunter green color, but you can find cute pairs made of many different colors and prints.

Rainy Days

Preparing for rainy days is usually the chic lady's impetus for buying a cute pair of Wellington boots. To look sophisticated and polished while you avoid inclement weather, buy Wellington boots in a subdued, solid color that will match your umbrella and any coat or rain slicker. If you opt for wellies in a chaotic print or too juvenile a color -- think hot pink -- you run the risk of looking sloppy when it's sopping wet outside.

Chilly Beach Days

If you're planning a trip to a coastline during colder months, be sure to pack a pair of Wellington boots to wear while you stroll the beach in chilly weather. Simply tuck your pants into your rubber Wellington boots and layer accordingly, and you'll be ready to wade in the ocean even when it's ice cold. Insulated Wellington boots are especially good for this, and are even more effective when worn with thick, cozy socks.

Float Tripping

Usually, Wellington boots don't come to mind during hot, sunny days, but they will definitely come in handy on summer float trips. Instead of soaking flip-flops or old sneakers in river or lake water, wear Wellington boots with your swimsuit and shorts combo. Not only will the rubber material dry quickly in the sun, but wading in shallow water or fishing from the river's edge won't result in squishy, slimy shoes.

Snow Day

Just as they will safeguard you on rainy days, cute Wellington boots offer comfort, style and protection while you venture through snow and ice. As an added bonus, Wellington boots usually offer excellent traction as they are made to endure bad weather, unlike many fashion boots that aren't water-repellent. Look cute -- and dry! -- by wearing wool socks with your boots and tucking jeans into your wellies. Throw on your favorite winter coat, and you're ready to walk through any winter wonderland.
