Not everything is as effortless as a walk in the park. In fact, sometimes deciding what to wear for a simple walk can pose a challenge. If you're meeting your boyfriend for an afternoon stroll, you'll want to look fashionable but feel comfortable. If your walk is slightly more rigorous, you should consider wearing functional walking shoes. When you dress for outdoor walks, think about the weather, the terrain and the length of the walk. Keep things simple with jeans and a T-shirt or add femininity with skirts and belted dresses. Use accessories to express your personal style.
Keep it Simple
Sometimes, when it comes to a walk in the park, less is more. A basic pair of denim jeans of light or dark wash easily pairs with tops and blouses of any color. Since jeans are a closet staple and therefore not commanding of major attention, choose a colored top or a fitted-graphic tee as the focal point of your outfit. To highlight the bottom half of your body, stick to boot cut or skinny jeans or black leggings. During the summer take a break from pants and look for billowy tunics, maxi dresses and above-the-knee floral skirts.
Whether you'll be strolling around a local park or hiking in the mountains, function should not be ignored. While heels will add inches to one's height, walking on uneven ground in a pair of stilettos is not recommended. There are plenty of other shoe options that are just as fashionable, but offer more comfort. Converse sneakers are stylish and wear well with jeans, leggings, and skirts. Throw a patterned tunic and belt over leggings and Converse sneakers or choose a form-fitting but modest blouse or tank and wear with basic denim jeans. Flats and sandals will work for leisurely strolls, but avoid these shoes for anything strenuous.
Accessories liven up even the dullest of outfits; when you're walking with your boyfriend, it's important to feel flirty and confident. Hats add a sophisticated touch to any outfit. Fedoras and berets are two styles that can be work year-round and rarely go out of fashion. Necklaces made from natural materials like wood, ivory and stone are good day-wear jewelry and pair well with a variety of outfits. Belts can be worn at the waist for dresses and high-waisted skirts. Although belts are meant for pants, be careful that the belt does not add extra bulk to your body.
Scarves and Jackets
Scarves and jackets are two items to finish off a casual day look. Scarves are worn year-round and come in a variety of fabrics and colors. A patterned or bold scarf adds immediate style to the ensemble, while jackets add fashion to function. For an edgy look, leather and sheepskin fabrics are trendy and functional. A sequinned blazer adds uptown glamour while a fitted blazer profiles a woman's curves and wears well with more embellished blouse styles.
