Lips can be the ultimate fashion accessory. Changing your lip color is inexpensive yet can completely alter your looks and even your mood. The violet lipstick appearing on runways, on stars like Rhianna and in fashion magazines can be hard to pull off in person, but when you do, it looks edgy and modern.
1.
Choose a violet shade with bluish undertones. Violet lipstick with brown hints can make your teeth look yellow -- never a sexy trait. You can tell a lipstick has bluish undertones because it looks pinky-purple, rather than plum or eggplant in color.
2.
Use the lipstick without a liner. A dark outline with violet lips looks witchy.
3.
Keep the rest of your makeup modest. Go for minimal eyes, cheeks and just a touch of mascara. Purple lips paired with colored eye shadow and bright blush will look costume-y.
4.
Sweep up your hair to make your lips the focal point. A big do and purple lips may look to Bozo the Clown.
The deepest shades of violet may best be left to the runway. Deep purple can look too Goth for the average gal.
Violet can be a tough lip color to wear. You might get some snide comments – such as you look as if you have a heart condition, poor circulation or are near death. Be prepared to wear the color with confidence. If you are wearing a purple outfit, ditch the violet lips or you’ll look too matchy.
