A shirt dress, known for its versatility, can go from day to evening with just a few quick accessory changes. Since shirt dresses come in a variety of patterns, colors and shapes, finding one to match your style and flatter your figure should be a cinch.
1.
Wear a belt around your waist if you have an hourglass or straight figure. The belt will help show off your tiny waist if you have an hourglass figure, or make it look like you have a waist if you have a boyish shape, according to Stacy London of "What Not to Wear."
2.
Stick with an A-line dress without a belt, or a shirt dress with a fuller skirt if you have a pear shape, meaning your hips and thighs are bigger than your chest and waist. The full skirt will help conceal and flatter your hips.
3.
Pair the dress with ballet flats for a casual, everyday look. If you wear the dress to the office or for a night out on the town, put on a pair of high heeled pumps instead.
4.
Pull on a pair of opaque tights or leggings under the dress in the winter. Wear a pair of tall boots over the tights to keep you warm, as well as stylish.
5.
Make the shirt dress look like a skirt by wearing a sweater or cardigan on top.
6.
Keep your jewelry relatively simple. Wear a necklace with a short drop and small pendant so that the neckline of the dress does not look too busy. Wear a few thin bangles on one wrist and hoop earrings.
