When you think of a shawl, the first thing that may come to mind is your grandmother or a huge, slouchy piece that covers you up and hides your gorgeous figure. Ok, so there are different takes on the shawl wardrobe piece, but they can actually be really lovely, if you wear them right. Make your shawl a favorite accessory by learning to wear it in ways that are both sultry and chic.
Sparkle and Shine
1.
Slide your gorgeous body into your favorite little black dress. For a pretty, trendy look, stick with a dress that falls above the knee -- it screams young and fun.
2.
Slip on a pair of black slingback heels. Go with a higher heel if you're a heel lover, or opt for a kitten heel if you'd rather take it easy on your tootsies.
3.
Slip on a sparkly metallic shawl -- think silver or gold -- and turn it so the body of the shawl is draped over your back. This is a gorgeous throwback to Old Hollywood glamour, and is going to make you the fashion star of the night, no matter what elegant outing you have planned.
Pinned and Pretty
1.
Get yourself dressed in a pretty evening gown or even a lovely suit, if you feel like taking the menswear route.
2.
Wrap a shawl around your back and shoulders so the ends meet together in the middle in front of you. Shawls are usually triangular in shape, so drape it with the long, straight edge at the top, with the pointed end facing down your back.
3.
Hold the ends with one hand however you want it to look when it's pinned into place. With a shawl pin -- have fun with these; you can find them in plain plastic or decorated with jewels and gems -- place the decorative part of the pin over top of this area. Let some of the fabric of the shawl show through the center if it's a ring-shaped pin.
4.
Slip the pin's needle through the fabric, starting at the inside edge and going to the opposite inside edge of the body of the pin to keep it secured in place. Move the pin around to capture the look you want.
Use more than one pin or decorative brooch to your shawl to add some pizazz. This keeps your look from being anything but dumpy, but remember to keep the rest of your outfit pretty simple and don't load up on other accessories -- you're already making enough of a statement.
