Back when you were younger, the ripped jeans thing was oh-so-cool. You threw on some shoelace-free Keds and an oversize fluorescent T-shirt and you were ready to go. The jeans fit a bit differently these days and the styling ... thank you, fashion world ... is a bit more chic, too. The only problem -- you're not sure what these changes include. Don't fret -- fortunately, this look is still just as easy.
Add a Jacket
When it's just chilly enough outside that you need a jacket, but not too chilly to throw on your favorite ripped jeans, you feel a little bit at a loss. Your usual peacoat won't do -- it seems too conservative. Either keep the look tough and chic with a leather jacket, like your favorite moto style or, go for a brightly colored print to infuse the look with some femininity.
Go Frilly and Femme
You love this whole tough, ripped jeans thing, but you're not too in love with yourself in more than one tough piece at a time. Go in the opposite direction with the rest of your look. Choose whites or pastels to keep the color palette soft. Grab a feminine blouse from your closet -- go for details like lace insets or ruffles. For the finishing touches, wear heels to amp up the girly factor and add some delicate jewelry like a thin necklace.
Keep it Casual
You love, love, love a casual look and your ripped jeans are an amazing beginning to that laid-back feel. Keep one trick in mind to avoid looking too casual -- always add at least one feminine, more polished piece to your look. Clearly, a soft cotton slub or linen-blend T-shirt or tank in a solid color is your go-to for on top. For your not-so-casual addition, add a bib necklace, some metallic shoes or a printed bag.
Go Urban Chic
If you're trying to figure out how to dress up your look just enough to make it feel adult, chic and sophisticated while boasting tattered denim, it's easy. Keep your look simple and add some fantastic accessories. Think V-neck blouse in a neutral tone. Now, for the fun part -- always wear a belt and a statement bag to pull the look together. Throw on some va-va-voom jewelry like a bold cuff. The finishing touch: killer platform shoes.
