Maybe you got tired of dealing with your curls, or perhaps you like the sleek look of freshly-relaxed hair. No matter the reason, you've taken the plunge, relaxed your hair, and now you want to style it. To minimize damage to your hair, you've chosen not to apply heat to your hair to straighten it, which is a positive choice as you seek to maintain healthy hair. To continue to keep your relaxed hair healthy, consider wearing a twist-out style for body and versatility.
Wash and condition your hair with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, free of sulfates and alcohol. These products strip your relaxed hair of much-needed moisture in its already fragile state. Apply a leave-in conditioner once you have finished. Keeping your hair moisturized is the key to keeping your hair healthy!
Grab a section of your damp hair about an inch wide, comb it out and divide it into two. Twist the two sections together creating a two-strand twist. Repeat this until you have twisted all of your hair. You may secure the ends of your twists with clips to prevent them from unraveling, if needed.
Sleep on your hair overnight to allow the twists to set in your hair. Cover your head with a satin bonnet to protect your hair from friction on your pillow, which can cause breakage.
Unravel your twists. Your hair will be in waves around your head. Pull the waves apart to create more volume and style to your liking. Fill in any gaps in your hair by pulling the twists apart and outward.
Style your hair as you like it. Many women find this style appropriate to wear as is, with curls and waves flowing loosely. Others, however, prefer to pin their hair in a sophisticated or funky style. The choice is yours!
