Buns aren't just for mousy librarians anymore. This classic style is simultaneously cute and incredibly sexy. A bun pulls the hair out of your face, often making life easier, all the while showing off your neck for an ultra-sexy look. Although buns are quite easy to pull off, gals are often confused about how to make them. With a few tools from your beauty arsenal, you can get your hair into a bun, no sweat.
1.
Dampen hair with water. Squirt a dollop of gel into your hand and add a drop of conditioner to keep it from getting hard. Hard hair is a definite no-no, especially for this look because you really need to get your hair sleek to pull it off.
2.
Rub your palms together to distribute some gel onto your other hand. Apply it to your hair with your gel-laden hands. Don't skimp -- use enough so that your hair is almost wet. Apply the super holder all around your hairline, including the hair at the back of your neck. Although you may be wary about applying this much product to your hair, it really does make it sleek and prevent flyaways, which are the black plague of buns.
3.
Brush back your hair with a boar bristle brush and gather it with your hand at the base of your crown. To get your hair taut and sleek -- the essence of the bun -- lift up your chin and look up at the ceiling. Put your hair into a ponytail with an elastic band. Although you can leave your hair like this -- a super-cute look -- you'll need to complete the bun to get the ultimate in sexy sophistication.
4.
Rub more gel into the hair into your ponytail to get it sleek and smooth. Wrap your ponytail around the elastic in a circular motion, starting close to the roots (you might need to use your free hand to hold it in place) and coiling your way to the end of the pony so that you can no longer see the elastic. Tuck the ends of your ponytail under the bun and keep them from poking out with bobby pins. Slick down any flyaways with a bit of gel.
For a more casual bun look you can rock to a party or on a date, get a little messy. Wrap your hair loosely and haphazardly around the elastic to create a messy bun. Rub your fingers over the front of your hair to roughen it up a bit and to create texture. Place a cute headband on your hair in front of the bun and you're good to go.
