If your shirt is a solid color it's generally pretty simple to style. But what do you do when you start dealing with more details? Striped shirts are super cute when you know how to wear them. If you've got a fab black horizontal-striped shirt you're dying to rock, learn the tricks to making it look amazing.
Get Nautical
Don't take this look overboard -- keep your sailor cap at home. Instead, pair your striped top with a snazzy red or navy blue skirt. Go the extra mile and snag a skirt with double breasted buttons to look even more nautical. If you don't want to wear a skirt, work in a colorful trouser instead.
Wear It Under a Suit
If you want to dress down a two-piece suit, throw it on over your black horizontal-striped shirt. Keep the look simple with a basic black suit if you're going to work. If you don't have a suit, just pair your top with black slacks and a black jacket for a similar effect. Dress it up with pumps or go for a cool downtown girl vibe and throw on a pair of flats.
Go Casual
Your striped shirt doesn't have to be dressed up. If you want to be comfortable, pair it with a more casual bottom. A pair of jeans is always a good go-to piece. If you want to go another route, try a pair of cargo pants. If your top is slouchy, wear a fitted casual bottom. If your top hugs your body, balance the look with a looser bottom.
Back-to-School Preppy
Even if you're not the most studious, you can look like a preppy student with this look. Try wearing your striped shirt with a miniskirt and a tan blazer. Go for even more contrast and opt for a longer blazer -- one that hits close to the hem of your mini. This sexy-yet-conservative preppy combo is sure to keep your friends guessing. Horn rimmed glasses not included.
