Think barrettes are just for the toddler set? Think again. Barrettes make for a trendy look, and bring bling to your hair in a fun way. Check out some of the new barrette fashions, sporting gems, baubles, beads and wire, and suddenly you're looking for ways to wear barrettes. Tuck one or two in your hair for a subtle touch or ramp it up with a big, show-stopping barrette.
Comb or brush your hair to create a sleek and smooth look. Add a touch of hair mousse throughout your hair to give it a little texture that will help keep it in the barrettes. Squeaky clean hair has a way of sneaking loose.
Tease the hair at the crown of your head by backcombing it gently with the rat-tail comb. Pull the upper half of your hair back into a sleek half up-do. Leave some hair falling down around your face to frame it or pull it all back for a sleek style. Secure the hair at the crown of your head with an elastic hair band or a clip. Slide a small barrette into your hair at the front left or right side to add a small touch of snazzy to your style.
Make a chic chignon at the back of your head. Start by pulling your hair back into a ponytail at the crown of your head or at the nape of your neck. Twist the ponytail until it begins wrapping itself into a bun and secure it with bobby pins. Clip a large barrette either just above the chignon, to the left or right of it or beneath it, depending on the placement of the chignon.
Pull your long hair over behind one ear and make it into a ponytail. Insert a large barrette into your hair immediately in front of the ponytail so the barrette is just behind your ear. If you use a floral barrette, it will look like you have flowers tucked behind your ear.
Style your short hair the way you typically do -- using hair gel will add texture and give you a bit more control, as well as define any curls. Let the hair gel dry and then tuck one or two tiny, but shiny, barrettes into your hair at the top left or top right of your head. The barrettes don't need to hold any hair back, just clip them into tiny sections of your hair to add a bit of bling.
Spritz your style lightly with hair spray to make it stay.
