Frizz or poofiness is an unfortunate reality for wavy-haired chicks, whether brought on by humidity, stress or just because it's your hair's natural texture. If you have naturally wavy hair, you deal with poofiness regularly. The trick to managing wavy hair and controlling the poof is to style it using the right combo of products and techniques.

Air-Dried With Leave-In Conditioner

Keep your waves defined by towel-drying them gently once you get out of the shower. Use the towel to gently blot the water but don't rub your hair, as this breaks apart the waves. Instead, spritz your whole head with a moisturizing leave-in conditioner, then let your hair air-dry on its own. Dry hair poofs more easily than moist so avoid the extreme heat of a blow dryer and keep your hair hydrated with a good leave-in. Your waves will be frizz-free and smooth once they dry.

Scrunched With Gel

After towel-drying your hair, spritz it all with a spray gel. Spray gel is great for waves because it gives you hold and definition without weighing down the curl. As you spray the gel, scrunch the waves up toward your scalp. Just grab handfuls, lift and close your fist to push those waves up. The combo of gel and scrunching is a hair home run. Scrunched hair should air-dry for perfectly polished waves.

Twisted With Pomade

This technique is ideal for hair that is already dry and needs a little help to lose its poof. Scoop out a pea-sized amount of pomade and rub it between your fingers. Pomades gives a soft, flexible hold without making your waves crunchy. Select individual waves and twirl them around your fingers until they twist into pretty coils. Do this all around your head, twisting and coiling. Get more pomade as you need it. The waves will hold their shape all day while looking fabulously natural and defined.

Diffused With Serum

After towel-drying your clean hair, smooth a silicone-based serum onto the lengths and ends of your hair. Serums lock in moisture and seal out poof. Attach a diffuser to your hair dryer, flip your head over and let your hair pile into the diffuser nozzle, then turn on the dryer. Lift the hair up toward your scalp to allow your waves to bend and curl. The diffuser spreads the heat so that the air doesn't blow your waves apart. Dry your whole head in this way, then check out those wonderful waves.
