Your favorite jeans are probably the most versatile item of clothing in your closet. They're perfect for a lazy Sunday of lounging on the couch, watching old movies. You can throw them on for a quick trip to the grocery store, or for your dog's morning walk. But jeans aren't all about comfort and dressing down. Learn how to dress up your jeans and you'll be wearing them to formal events in no time.
Add a Jacket
When you think of a jacket, you probably think of a formal working environment. But a jacket added to a pair of jeans adds instant glam and is a perfect way to wear jeans to work. If your work setting is more informal, wear a fitted jacket with jeans, or wear this chic combo for a shopping trip or brunch with the girls. A tuxedo jacket works for an extra special occasion. If you're worried about your jacket making you look bigger, wear one in a lightweight material and belt it to accentuate your waist.
Tuck Them In
You see women tucking their jeans into Uggs and snow boots all winter long. Not the chicest of moves, but you can use the idea to help dress up your jeans for a special occasion. Throw on some skinny jeans and tuck them into heeled boots. Fitted, knee-high boots will elongate your legs and slim them at the same time. If you're a fan of over-the-knee boots, pick a leather pair in black or tan and put them on over your jeans. Keep the rest of your outfit simple, since the boots are the main event.
The best way to dress out any outfit is to add some hip accessories. With jeans, this could mean adding some statement heels in a bright color. If you're not a statement shoe kinda gal, some long necklaces add instant glam to your favorite jeans. Keep your top simple so the eye is drawn to the necklaces. Go as sparkly as you like, and pile on two or three necklaces for a fun, fashionable addition to your jeans.
Go Uber Girly
Dress for a romantic movie date with a pair of jeans and a girly top. Look for ruffles or lace, both of which add feminine mystique to any outfit. Stick to a black lace top if you're heading to a formal event, or go with a splash of color if you're planning a low-key night. Lace and ruffles have a vintage-y feel, so add a cocktail ring to top off the outfit. Alternatively, throw on an uber-girly dress over your jeans for a look that works, day or night.
