How to Use Stretch Mark Cream

Stretch marks are often the less-than-pretty result of an otherwise beautiful pregnancy or a souvenir from a major weight loss. In both cases, the unattractive, purplish-blue lines form on your skin because it's lost some of its elasticity. The best approach to diminishing the appearance of those pesky lines is to keep a positive attitude about them (however you got them, they're badges of courage) and to slather on stretch mark cream. Popping a vitamin C supplement every day can also help renew your skin's elasticity.

1.

Buy a cream specifically designed for stretch marks from the drugstore or make your own by purchasing a 100-percent cocoa cutter stick and some vitamin E oil.

2.

Make your own stretch mark cream by gently heating 3 tablespoons of grated cocoa butter in the microwave bowl at 50 percent power until it becomes creamy. Add 1 tablespoon of pure vitamin E oil, pour into a clean jar, and allow to cool.

3.

Take a shower and exfoliate your skin to ensure that there is no dead skin-cell buildup. Use the cream after the shower because skin is at its most absorbent when it is damp.

4.

Massage either the homemade or store-bought cream into your stretch marks, using circular motions. A one-to-two-minute massage will stimulate new skin-cell growth and help your skin absorb the nutrients from the cream.

5.

Use the cream twice each day to prevent and treat stretch marks. The cocoa butter will soften and plump the skin to minimize stretch marks, and the vitamin E will repair damaged skin.
