How to Use a Spring Headband Comb

Overview

OK, let’s be honest: The spring headband comb isn't exactly en vogue, but that doesn't mean it’s not a useful and inexpensive hair accessory. Also called a shark-tooth headband, flexi comb headband and banana band, it's the perfect choice when you want to keep your hair out of your face. Maybe you wouldn't wear one on date night, but for pulling your hair back to apply that facial mask, it gets the job done. Don't worry if you've never tried this blast from the past. It's easy to rock this '90s relic like a boss.

1.

Prepare your tresses. Spritz your locks with a mist of water to help your hair better stay in place.

2.

Flip the front of your hair back and brush back, in the same way you would for a ponytail.

3.

If your hair fights you and starts to fall forward, smooth it back with some styling gel or more water.

4.

Unhook the headband and insert the comb teeth into the front of your hair at the roots.

5.

Stretch the ends of the headband down past your ears and underneath your hair at the neck. Fasten the clip to secure the headband into place.

Tips & Tricks

Having trouble fastening the headband in place when you can’t see what you're doing? You're not alone. Here’s a cheat: Fasten the headband together around your neck like a necklace with the spiked ends of the comb facing up. Stretch the headband over your face and push the combs into place. Voila! You're done.

Wear this headband with your hair in a ponytail. Make the ponytail first and then push the combs into place.
