Elaborate, funky or statement jewelry adds an instant "wow" factor to a subtle, simple outfit. Lucky Magazine suggests planning an outfit around big, statement jewelry, not the other way around -- sort of like letting the star have the spotlight, with your clothing taking the supporting role.

1.

Browse the jewelry pages on fashion websites to get an idea of the variety of jewelry out there and the different ways people wear it. Keep a list of jewelry styles you like and keep an eye out for them when you shop.

2.

Go through your jewelry cases and look for big pieces that you’ve forgotten about or never worn. Look for bright colors, big beads, multi-layered necklaces and wide wrist cuffs.

3.

Shop for inexpensive statement jewelry at discount department stores, low-priced boutiques or vintage stores. The lower prices allow you to experiment with a freer mind. Try on pieces that you might first think are too big or flashy. Take a friend with you whose opinion you trust.

4.

Select large, attention-grabbing necklaces to dress up plain T-shirts and jeans for a casual, effortlessly fashionable look. A simple black or white shirt allows the necklace to shine.

5.

Choose subtler statement pieces, such as metallic wrist cuffs, welded necklaces, tonal pearls or beautifully set stone jewelry to dress up a plain suit or dress.
