When you’re craving volume but you don’t want to deflate your curls and waves, a blow-dryer outfitted with a diffuser on the end can deliver the results you want. Use a hair dryer diffuser to create volume in your mane, drying your hair gently and styling it at the same time.
Choose a Diffuser
Some blow-dryers come with a diffuser included in the package that fits onto the end of the unit. If your blow-dryer didn’t come with a diffuser, buy a universal diffuser that fits onto most blow-dryers. A diffuser just snaps right onto the end of a blow-dryer. If your hair is long, choose a diffuser with a concave shape that will let you pile your tresses into the diffuser for easy drying. If your hair is shorter, a diffuser with a flat surface should work fine.
Prepping Your Mane
After washing and conditioning, towel-dry your tresses gently and get ready to diffuse major volume. Create a cocktail of leave-in conditioner and styling cream to control frizzies and moisturize your hair. Work this goodness through your hair from roots to tips. Give your hair a boost by working some volumizing root-lifter to your roots to give your hair major energy.
How to Blow-Dry
Fit the diffuser onto the end of the blow-dryer and set the blow-dryer to a medium heat. Start scrunching the diffuser into your hair, pushing the fingers of the diffuser into the hair. Work the diffuser gently into your hair, moving it in and out through your hair to dry it. Try flipping your hair upside down and pushing the diffuser into your hair to add more volume to your hair. Keep going until your hair is almost completely dry. It’s fine to let the last few strands air-dry, if you want.
Finishing the Style
Add curls with a curling iron or straighten your locks with a flat iron. After you finish styling, flip your hair upside down and grab the hair spray. Spritz your roots while running your fingers through your hair for extra lift. Keep going like this to add sassy volume throughout your roots. Flip your hair right side up again and finger-comb your hair gently to arrange it. Spritz your hair one more time with hair spray to set the style.
