How to Use a Brush for Eyebrow Darkening

Shaped and filled-in brows frame your eyes.

If eyes are the window to the soul, your brows are the frame. Sparse, pale eyebrows leave you looking unfinished. Filling them creates a frame for your eyes and completes your face, but darken them too much and you risk looking like you had a bad run-in with a box of crayons. Using an eyebrow brush gives you the control of a pencil, but with a more natural, soft end result.

1.

Mark where your brows should begin and end using a dot of concealer or a highlighter pencil.

2.

Brush your eyebrows upward and trim away any stray hairs, even if they are light.

3.

Opt for an angled brow brush and coat with a tinted brow wax to darken the arches. Avoid brow powder, which can rub away over the course of the day. Use a stencil to create a flattering arch if you have nearly invisible natural brows.

4.

Apply small, light strokes, starting from the inner eye corner. Work your way up over the arch of your brow and taper to the end. Follow your natural eyebrow line. Brush over with a powder brush to soften the lines and make your brows look natural. Without the softening, you might end up looking more American Girl doll than girl-next-door.

Things You'll Need

1.Concealer or highlighter pencil

3.Tinted brow wax

2.Angled brow brush

Tips & Tricks

When darkening your eyebrows, choose a color at least two shades lighter than your hair color. If you have extremely light blond hair, choose a color two shades darker than your hair color. If you have very sparse brows that are hard to see and follow, use a stencil that creates a flattering arch.

Fill in your brows just after you apply foundation, and before adding mascara and liner. You might need less on your eyes after your brows are enhanced.

No matter what your hair color, avoid black brow wax. It looks unnatural and harsh.
