How to Update an Appearance

Find a celebrity to model your update on, such as Cate Blanchett, seen here at a theater performance in Sydney in June 2011 in snazzy narrow black pants, tunic top and black blazer.

If you show up at a high school reunion and everyone says you look exactly the same, that is not a compliment -- it's a hint some updating is in order. A new pair of shoes simply won’t do the trick. So fasten your seatbelt and get ready for a fun ride of multiple changes.

1.

Change your hairstyle and hair color. If you’re not comfortable with completely dying your hair, highlight it. A change in length also makes a big difference. If you want to gradually ease into the changes instead of jumping right in, use a wig or extensions, both of which are a lot less drastic than doing anything to your actual hair. You can get a wig in a completely different length and color than your current style. If you want longer hair, you can get hair extensions or even use a clip-on piece.

2.

Get a tan. You can get an airbrush tan or you can use a self tanning lotion. The airbrush tan is done by a professional in a tanning salon and takes about a half an hour for the whole process. The self-tanning lotion you can do by yourself at home. It usually needs to be applied every day and done carefully so the color isn’t streaky.

3.

Modify your eyebrows. Go to a waxer for a clean-up. She will get rid of the excess hair and shape them so they work with your features. You would be surprised how big of a difference a little adjustment to eyebrows can make.

4.

Wear an outfit that you have never worn before. If you wear turtlenecks and dress pants on a daily basis, switch it up a bit and try a dress or a blouse with a skirt. If you usually wear dark colors, try wearing a bright color, such as pink or yellow. To ease into adding more color into your wardrobe, start by choosing bright accessories. When you get used to those, you can move your way up to the clothing.

5.

Whiten your teeth. When you smile you show your teeth for the world to see. If your teeth are yellow, they won’t look very beautiful and you won’t feel so great showing them off. You can get whitening strips or you can get them whitened at your dentist's office. A beautiful smile can change the whole look of your face.

6.

Start exercising. Not only will you feel better, but you’ll look better as well.

Tips & Tricks

Find what truly makes you happy. While you may think this doesn’t have a lot to do with updating your appearance, it does. When you feel happy on the inside, it radiates and shows from the outside.
