White-linen fabrics are bright, breezy and just perfect for the beach or a summer party. There’s only one problem … they’re also mostly see-through. Since showing your underwear -- or lack thereof -- isn’t exactly a great fashion statement, finding the right underwear to wear underneath white linen can help to make your only fashion statement be about how great you look in your white linen.
Not White
It can be tempting to wear white underwear with white linen. Since they’re both white, they should blend in, right? Wrong. White bras and panties will show through white linen, making them just as visible as if you were wearing a colored bra-and-panty set. This means white underwear is a no-no when wearing white linen.
Nude is a Yes
Since white won’t do, the best thing to wear is nude. The nude color will help your underwear blend in with white linen and make it just as unnoticeable as your own skin underneath your clothing. Since there are just as many skin tones as there are makeup colors, make sure your nude underwear is a close match to your own skin to ensure it can’t be seen underneath your white-linen clothing. When in doubt, choose the underwear color that is slightly lighter.
Microfiber
It’s not just underwear color you have to worry about with white-linen pants; it’s also those pesky panty lines that can give you trouble. If you choose a microfiber fabric -- a stretchy, thin fabric -- you will have less bulk under your pants, making your underwear less noticeable. For your bra, look for a nude fabric with some stretch that can support -- yet be seamless -- under your clothing.
A Cut That Flatters
The right cut to avoid visible panty lines can depend upon the shape of the white-linen fabric of the clothing you are wearing. For example, a pair of wider, white-linen pants can be worn with a full-coverage panty or boy short made of nude microfiber, because the fabric will not cling to your body. However, if you are wearing something a little closer to your skin, you may need to wear a nude thong instead. The thong reduces the likelihood that your underwear can show through, while still being fairly comfortable. For your bra, you can wear the style that’s most appropriate for your breast size; for example, a full cup is more supportive for larger breasts, while a demi cup can be worn if you have a smaller cup size, such as a B or below.
