Pin-straight hair has been chic and stylish for what seems like forever -- from the swinging '60s in mod London up to the modern day. If you have wavy or curly tresses and use a flat iron or blow dryer to fake your way to straightness, then an effective straightening balm may be able to make your job significantly easier. Many different types of balms are out there just waiting for you.

Frizz Reducing

If you're looking for the type of straightening balm that helps you get pesky frizz under control, many options are out there waiting for you. Look for a creamy and lightweight balm has a non-oily feel, and that nourishes, softens and forties your strands with a combination of conditioning components such as rice proteins, jojoba and hibiscus. With frizz no longer being an issue, these balms can get your locks back on track to glossy smoothness.

All Natural

If you're a fan of gentle and natural hair care products, go organic. Make sure that your straightening balm is 100 percent free of harsh and potentially drying sulfates. Straighten your hair while simultaneously strengthening and hydrating it with natural ingredients such as the intensely moisturizing hemp seed oil. Go the extra mile and look for a product with nourishing elements such as cucumber, cranberry and avocado extracts, too.

Heat Protection

If you're hopelessly devoted to heat styling tools such as flat irons and blow dryers, it is vital to protect your hair against their often drying effects. Opt for a straightening balm with thermal protection. Heat protecting balms defend your fragile hair against humidity, preventing annoying frizz and breakaway strands. Also, if you want to give your hair a little sexy shine, a wheat protein-infused balm may be just what you need to do the trick.

Humectant

If serious moisture is what you're after, look for a humectant straightening balm that will lock in essential hydration for hours on end. Find a balm that aims to defend your hair against excessive heat and moisture in the air, all the while boosting shine with a silicone derivative such as cyclomethicone. Humectants are thick and rich -- and are also usually beneficial for getting rid of frustrating flyaway hairs and frizz -- both things you definitely do not need in your life!
