You fell in love with those plaid shorts the minute you laid eyes on them. You purchased them on impulse, certain that you'd find something to wear with them. Then you got home, shuffled through your overflowing hamper and came to the conclusion that you had no idea what to pair with plaid. But whether it's your "I love New York" tee or a tank top, your closet's hiding something that's sure to work.
Graphic Tees
Almost any figure-fitting baby doll tee with a plain background coordinates with plaid shorts. It's all the better if the tee bears the words "I'm not short, I'm fun size" or "Don't hate me cuz you ain't me" in bold lettering. Plaid shorts give you a great excuse to wear T-shirts that display the logo of your favorite clothing store. Of course, that clothing store will love you back, since you've now become a walking advertisement.
Lace-Trimmed Shirts
If you thought your lace-trimmed short-sleeve blouse looked a mite drab with plain blue jeans, perk it up by pairing it with plaid shorts. Presto! In the words of Ke$ha, you just got instantly "sexy-fied" without even trying. Just keep one thing in mind. Some of these shirts are rather long and might drape down past the length of your shorts. So if you don't want to walk around looking like you forgot half of your wardrobe, make sure at least 2 inches of your plaid shorts poke out from beneath your top.
Tanks
Tank tops and camisoles of any solid color fit appropriately with your plaid motif. But how boring is that? Ribbed tanks and spaghetti strap tops all look the same after a while. Break out of your old tank mold and graduate to sequined tanks that shimmer. Gathered tanks that feature scrunched knots just below the cleavage or cinched pleating around the skinniest part of your hourglass help you dress up plaid bottoms and make them look like more than just glorified pajama shorts.
Button-down Tops
Feel like showing your tomboy side? "Glamour" recommends pairing a collared button-down shirt with tails above your plaid shorts for a corporate-America-meets-beach-bum look. Just avoid the travesty of wearing such a shirt with a print of any sort. Your shorts contain enough print to last from here until Tuesday, let alone for one outfit. But don't throw the baby out with the bath water by ditching your feminine look entirely. Wear a lacy camisole beneath the collared shirt, leaving the latter partially unbuttoned. Or don a girlie necklace and pair of drop earrings for a sultry touch.
