An oh-so-hot denim skirt is a fashionable compromise between casual and dressy attire. Short is best; long denim skirts can end up looking frumpy rather than fabulous and chic. If you have a long denim skirt tucked away in the closet, you can turn it into a short skirt with a few common sewing supplies. So, grab your scissors and sewing machine, and get ready to turn some heads in your sexy new short denim skirt.
Put the skirt on inside out and mark the area where you want the skirt to fall with a piece of white chalk. You can make it above-knee length for a conservative look, or go higher up to make it a sexy miniskirt.
Take off the skirt and lay it flat on a table. Lay a yardstick or other straight edge straight across the skirt at the white chalk mark and draw a straight line across the skirt in chalk. Make sure to use a straight edge to draw this line or you'll end up with a less-than-fabulous uneven hemline.
Cut off the bottom of the skirt about an inch below the white line (you've got to leave a seam allowance).
Fold up the bottom of the skirt on the chalk line and iron this fold down. This'll help you keep the hem straight when you sew it down.
Insert a denim needle into the sewing machine and sew down the hem using a zigzag stitch. Pair it with your favorite tee and hit the town!
