Gearing up for that string bikini may require you to get rid of pesky hairs poking out on your bikini line. Shaving might leave you with bumps or razor burn and those pro-waxing sessions just aren't in the budget. So grab some hair removal cream to get rid of the unwanted hair. Follow some simple tips to make the experience a successful one.
Test It Out
The bikini line is a sensitive area, so don't just grab the hair removal cream and start spreading it on there. Test it out on a small spot first. Apply the cream, wait the appropriate amount of time according to the package directions and rinse it off. Wait at least 24 hours to check for any signs of irritation before applying the cream to the entire area.
Start with Clean Skin
Properly cleansing the skin in the bikini area first will help the removal cream to work best and reduce irritation. Gently cleanse the area with body wash and a loofah or exfoliating glove. Using mild exfoliation will get rid of dead skin cells that may interfere with the cream's effectiveness. Rinse the area well with plenty of water and pat dry before using the hair removal cream.
Use the Cream Properly
Although different hair removal cream products will offer specific instructions, they are all relatively similar when it comes to applying the cream. Smooth the cream onto the bikini area with your fingertips. Some creams may come with a spatula used for applying the cream. Apply a thick, even layer to the spots from which you want to remove hair. Don't rub the cream into your skin; instead, just spread it. Wait the recommended amount of time according to the product's label -- usually between three and six minutes -- before rinsing the area well with cold water.
Although hair removal cream is safe, there are some things to keep in mind when using these products. Never leave the cream on for more than the recommended time. Doing so can cause severe irritation to the skin. Don't use hair removal cream on the bikini area if the skin is scarred, sunburned, has moles or is otherwise irritated. Wait at least 72 hours after one application of hair removal cream before using it again, and stop using immediately if you begin to feel pain or tingling.
