Do Tights Make You Look Slimmer?

The right tights can slim your legs for sure; it's all about the style, color and engineering of the pair you pick. Tights tend to put your legs on center stage, but a pair that doesn't blend with your outfit well can make your legs look shorter. Stick to a pair that's stylishly subdued for the best leg-lengthening results.

Color Code

Black tights are an obvious pick for slimming purposes. Still, they're not the only solution; any deep shade of tights can make your legs look longer and leaner. Burgundy tights, for example, can blend in with a deep brown skirt, creating a sleek, understated and thereby slimming stance. Match your tights to your shoes for mile-long legs.

The Opaque Option

Sheer stockings can be sexy, but when it comes to creating a slimmer stance, an opaque pair definitely does the job. An opaque, matte pair blends into the background of your outfit, creating a long, lean leg line from top to bottom. This lengthens better than a sheer pair, which lets your skin show through and interrupt the color line.

Print Perfection

If you're trying for tights with a design, be picky about the print. Go for small prints as opposed to large ones; big prints tend to add bulk. Slim ribbing or pinstripes add vertical lines that are closely spaced, adding to the illusion of length and not to the width of your legs.

Tights That Tighten

Some tights are made to physically suck in the stems, tighten the tummy and bolster the booty -- all by virtue of their engineering. Experience the powers of a pair labeled "control top" or "bodyshaping" at your local lingerie store.
