The ancient Egyptians used castor oil to promote hair growth, so the idea of a hot oil treatment with this natural oil is far older than retro-chic. Castor oil's moisturizing problems recommend it as a multipurpose beauty aid, meaning every girl should keep a bottle in her cupboard for home spa nights. This oil plumps up hair follicles and seals moisture in hair. It also deep conditions dry, thin or damaged hair. If your hair is over-processed or naturally fine, use castor oil to plump up the volume of those locks.

1.

Pour 2 tbsp. of castor oil into a metal bowl.

2.

Fill a larger metal bowl with hot water. Float the bowl holding your oil in the hot water, until the oil heats up enough to feel warm to hot to the touch, yet not so hot that it will burn you.

3.

Pour the castor oil over your hair, massaging it into the scalp and the roots, until all hairs have been coated with the oil.

4.

Put a shower cap on your head, so the oil does not drip everywhere. Leave the castor oil on your head for a minimum of 15 to 20 minutes, although you can keep it on overnight.

5.

Shampoo your hair to remove the oil. Rub shampoo over your oily locks, then get under the water and rinse off. Repeat as needed until your hair is oil-free.

6.

Repeat the castor oil treatment once a month to thicken healthy hair, and as much as once a week to treat dry or damaged hair.
