Pretty coils and swirls go perfectly with a ponytail.

Amp up your standard ponytail with a little imaginative styling. Sometimes all it takes is an artfully positioned swirl or two in your hair to transport ho-hum to "oh-stun." Do a swirl-back ponytail for a stylish updo that will work for any elegant occasion. You might be amazed how chic this go-to style becomes when you rev up the volume.

1.

Squeeze a smidgeon of styling cream or mousse into one hand and rub your hands together lightly. Run your coated hands through your freshly-washed, damp strands to apply the cream or mousse evenly through your mane.

2.

Grab the vented round brush and the blow-dryer. Pull small sections of hair out from your scalp and wind them around the brush. Direct the heat of the blow-dryer over your wound hair until it dries completely. Keep going just like this until you finish infusing pretty waves and curls throughout your entire head.

3.

Separate a section of hair at one temple -- make it about 3 inches, covering the side and top of your head, above your ear. Coil the hair into a pretty swirl -- think soft-serve ice cream and you’ve got the look. Tuck in the ends and clip the swirl tightly with a bobby pin or two. Do the same thing on the other side of your head.

4.

Pull the rest of your hair back into a high ponytail at the crown of your head. Fasten it tightly with an elastic hair band.

5.

Curl 1-inch sections of your ponytail with the curling iron to create a bouncy, bodacious ponytail. Keep going until you curl the entire thing. Wait until the curls cool, then finger-comb your ponytail gently to arrange the curls.

6.

Spritz your style lightly with hair spray to hold it firmly.
