Don't suffer from a meltdown this summer. As the weather starts to heat up, you're probably already well aware of the importance of SPF -- no matter what your complexion, don't forget to be diligent with your sunscreen. But then what? When it comes to finding the right look, confidence is key -- so it's time to refresh, revamp and bring in a natural radiance and summer sexiness that will last all year long.
Be gorgeous without spending serious time in the sun. Sue Devitt, internationally acclaimed celebrity makeup artist, suggests mixing a dab of liquid bronzer in with your daily moisturizer. This will provide the base for a natural, glowing complexion. Next, apply a bronzing power to the apples of your cheeks, chin and forehead -- all the points the sun would naturally hit -- to achieve the depth of a true tan. Then finish with just a hint of shimmer high on the cheekbones.
Give your complexion a quick pick-me-up and never underestimate the power of minimalism. Devitt recommends applying a light layer of foundation or a tinted moisturizer only to the areas of your face that need coverage. Formulations with SPF coverage and treatment properties are best for extra protection against harsh environmental exposure and premature photo-aging when applied after your regular sunscreen. Then dust a pale pink or rose blush softly to your cheekbones. Remember, summer is all about barely-there looks and your makeup needs only a light touch.
Don't forget to protect your lips from drying in the summer heat. A swipe of color on the lips can also instantly brighten up your look. If you're not a fan of the bright lipstick revolution that's all the rage now, try sprucing up your lips with a shiny nude, gold, rust or burnt amber lip gloss that matches your skin tone, and work it into a nude lipstick (dot it onto the bottom lip only). This will add an ultra-glam effect!
Whether it's a pop of color or a bold, smoky statement, intensifying your eyes is a sure way to stand out and look amazing. Devitt's favorite look for summer is to keep eyes light and bright by using shades of coral with a shimmering bronze eye pencil blended along the lash line. These shades look great with almost all skin tones and are wearable both day and evening.
