Think huge and decadent cinnamon buns dripping with frosting and you’re getting close to the look of one of these big, puffy buns in your hair. Known as “cinnamon buns” or “cinnamon chignons,” these major updos can be just the ticket for creating a chic and elegant hairstyle. Wind and coil your hair up into a graceful cinnamon bun and get ready for high fashion.
Slather a smidgeon of styling gel through your dry locks, working it through from roots to tips with your fingers. Brush your mane out to detangle.
Pull your hair back into a ponytail. Position the ponytail high on top of your head if you want to perch your cinnamon bun front and center. Move the ponytail down a little to the center back of your head for a classic cinnamon bun. Slide the ponytail down just a touch farther if you’d rather create a cinnamon chignon at the nape of your neck. Fasten the ponytail tightly with the elastic hair band.
Position the bun or chignon foundation around the base of your ponytail. This handy foam doodad helps create the big base of your bun.
Take the hair from the center of the bun foundation and wrap it smoothly out and over the foam. The goal is to wrap your hair evenly so that it covers the foam foundation underneath, and nobody even knows it’s there. When you get your hair wrapped neatly, grab bobby pins and anchor the hair tightly over the bun foundation.
Wrap any remaining length of hair sticking out from under the bun foundation. Coil the hair around the foundation, pinning it with bobby pins to hold it tight. Keep going until you’ve coiled and tucked all your hair neatly.
Spritz the style lightly with hairspray to hold it in place all day or evening.
