Chemical relaxers straighten curly hair to afford women the option of fiercely rockin' straight hair trends without having to break out the flat iron each day. But Michigan-based cosmetologist Kathy Mojet warns that chemically relaxed hair needs more moisture and TLC than other hair types. Nothing ruins your glossy hair mojo faster than ends breaking off and distorting the lines of your fly new cut. Learn to pamper those locks and keep them happy to avoid disastrous hair breakage and embarrassing hair moments.

1.

Avoid overprocessing your hair during the initial chemical relaxer treatment. If your hurting beauty budget mandates that you relax hair at home, strictly follow the time guidelines on your product. Never, ever overprocess hair, or breakage is about as sure as runny mascara on a rainy day. If your budget allows, find a stylist who specializes in working with chemically relaxed hair and let her apply the perm for you.

2.

Wash hair weekly with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Mojet warns that washing any more frequently leads to dryness, which weakens relaxed hair and could lead to breakage.

3.

Deep-condition your hair every two weeks. Most women apply product to dry hair, don a runway-worthy shower cap and allow conditioner to process for roughly 30 minutes. They then rinse the conditioner out and shampoo normally. Mojet swears that regular deep conditioning will keep your hair nourished, shiny, strong and break-resistant, and also help it to grow faster.

4.

Apply three or four drops of hair oil to dry hair each morning before styling. This little boost of moisture will add extra strength to fragile relaxed locks before they meet the pressures of the elements and any styling products you use on a regular basis.
