If you like to fake bake, you know that an even application of self-tanner is critical to a smooth, natural-looking tan. So if you've been applying self-tanner in the comfort of your own boudoir but now want to get an all-over spray tan, there are a few things you need to do to prep your skin for the tanning booth. It's all about preventing any blotches or splotches that might ruin your sun-kissed glow.
1.
Take regular showers while you use the self-tanning lotion. If you don't, the lotion builds up in certain areas and gives you a fake, crusted look.
2.
Stop applying the self-tanning lotion once you arrange for your spray tan appointment.
3.
Prep for your spray tan appointment by thoroughly exfoliating your skin. Take a shower using an exfoliating shower gel and brush or sponge. This helps remove all the dead skin that has the self-tanner on it.
4.
Go to your spray tan appointment, and wear loose clothing (like sweatpants and a sweatshirt). If the tanning salon won't allow you to receive a spray tan in the buff or you don't feel comfortable doing so, wear your underwear or a paper thong provided by the salon.
5.
Pay close attention to and follow the tanning salon technician's instructions for applying tan blending cream and lotion to avoid streaks.
