Burberry is British class plus modern fab. This long-standing design firm is home to tantalizing trenchcoats, classic Burberry check, and the cutting-edge Burberry Prorsum label. The company is also famous for its purses. If diva supermodel Kate Moss carries Burberry, it must be fashionable! Of course, forgers inevitably follow and then glut the market with fraudulent product. To spot fake Burberry, use your fashion detective skills to suss out "tells," or signs of fakery. With careful shopping, you'll avoid fakes and land your Moss-approved jewel.

Note your shopping spot. Burberry doesn't vend through purse parties, car trunks or the flea market. Instead, look for real Burberry in a Burberry brand retail outlet, high-end department store, or trusted online sources like eLuxury or the company website. Purchasing from another source highly increases your chance of bagging a fake.

Look at the check pattern to see if it's the real thing. Burberry has two signature plaids, the Classic Check and the Nova Check. Both plaids utilize clean lines in red or maroon, white and black; the Classic Check also has the horseman icon in the center of the pattern. If the lines look fuzzy, off-center, or mismatched along the seams, you're dealing with a forgery.

Put the focus on "U" -- the letter, that is. The real Burberry logo U shows a little extra weight on the left side, making the left look slightly darker and heavier. If the U has a perfectly balanced look, the font is wrong and the purse is fake. The Y also has the same heavier weight.

Check the purse's seams. As with any expensive, high-quality bag, a Burberry purse has perfectly matched seams. The check pattern will always align, and the seams feature double-stitching as reinforcement. While the fabric or textile may not sit perfectly straight, the lines will still come together at the seam.
Don't instantly discount a vinyl PVC Burberry as fake. The company makes a number of bags in sturdy vinyl fabric in addition to soft, expensive leather. Instead, focus on smaller, less noticeable marks of forgery.
