Socks may be an afterthought for most gals. But get caught in a situation where you have the wrong kind of sock peeking out from your pant leg and you'll feel like a total fashion faux pas. Thankfully, jeans are the kind of pants that pretty much go with any sock. That said, it's probably best to leave your athletic socks for the gym. Snag one of these suggested styles and show off those happy feet.
Knee Socks
On those super-chilly days, you may want an extra layer to keep your toes warm and toasty. A knee sock in a cotton-wool blend is the perfect pick for this sort of occasion. Knee socks are great under boot-cut or flared jeans. Skip them under skinny jeans or "jeggings"; they may get bunchy. Try a pair in a solid color for everyday wear. Go collegiate in an argyle or stripe. Or for a casual Saturday, slip on a pair with a fun, wild pattern.
Trouser Socks
Trouser socks may sound stuffy, but they're actually great for pairing with jeans and dressier shoes. These classic socks come in mid-calf and knee-high length. Unlike a knee sock, a trouser sock is made of thinner material like nylon, opaque pantyhose or tights. Trouser socks fit best under boot-cut or flared jeans. Their slim fit also makes them perfect for wearing with ballet flats, boots or heels.
Ankle Socks
Love skinny denim and sneakers? Then the ankle sock is your best bet. This cotton sock hits just at the ankle, eliminating any extra bulk under slim-fitting jeans. That said, ankle socks can also be worn under boot-cut jeans but should be avoided under flared pants. An ankle sock is just the right weight to wear with your favorite funky pair of classic basketball shoes or cool skater sneakers. Choose a basic black or white sock, or have a little fun and pick a patterned pair.
Peds
A ped sock looks like a knitted ballet flat and comes in cotton blend, nylon blend, opaque hose and tights. This sock is virtually invisible under a shoe, which makes it the go-to style for wearing with ballet flats, heels and Mary Janes. The beauty of peds is that they go with any kind of denim. Choose the fabric of your peds based on what kind of shoe you'll be wearing. Canvas ballet flats can take a cotton ped, while a patent-leather pump calls for one made of hose material.
