Summertime means showing off your fab pedicure with a cool pair of flip-flops. Whether you pound the city pavement or stroll the sandy beach, these thong-style sandals are an oh-so-important warm weather accessory. But exposed feet collect dirt, grime and sweat, causing your fave Havaianas to stink something fierce. Don't toss them! Use these quick tips to keep them clean and smelling fresh.
Switch out your flip-flops every few days. Flip-flops can be cheap, so buy a few pairs in the same color or style. Alternate wearing them to keep the foot funk at bay.
Sprinkle your plastic flip-flops with a little baking soda or baby powder. Both suck up sweat and stinky odors. Leave the baking soda on overnight, then dust or rinse them off in the morning. If you rock an expensive leather or fabric version of the thong sandal, put the baking soda in a potpourri bag and let it rest on your shoe overnight.
Spray your leather or plastic flip-flops with household cleaner, and wipe with a paper towel. If you love to go green, try mixing your own cleaner with a little vinegar and water.
Dunk your plastic flip-flops into a bucket of warm water and laundry detergent. Scrub with a sponge before rinsing them off. Let them air dry in the sunshine.
Throw your fabric covered or plastic flip-flops in the laundry. Wash them in the cold cycle to avoid a melted mess, and slip them into a delicates wash bag to spare the thong from major damage.
