Finding the right hairstyle can be a daunting task. You have to consider your facial features and your hair's texture and length. However, to the rescue comes the ponytail. This youthful style is fast and easy to do, while giving you a polished, high-fashion appearance. Now we can't argue with that! There are different ways to wear a ponytail. Whatever style you choose, work it in full effect.
Glam Ponytail
Glamour and old-school style can work hand in hand. Create a diva look that is a throwback to the 60s era. Height in the crown is essential in making this do look fabulous. Frederic Fekkai hairstylist Renato Campora divides dry hair into two sections, and curls the bottom layer with a 1 1/2-inch iron to create height. He then teases the roots of the second layer with a fine-tooth comb. To complete Campora's look, comb the hair back, secure it at the crown and use a sheer-hold hairspray.
Wavy Side Ponytail
While this style looks good with straight hair, curly or wavy hair gives it a more feminine and somewhat girlish appearance. If your locks are straight, you can always attach a curly hairpiece to your hair. Voila, new hair in a snap! Part your hair low and on the side and secure it in a side ponytail with an elastic band. Use a band that matches your hair color. If curls are very tight pull them apart with a natural-bristle brush. No tight poodle curls, girls.
Fashion Ponytail
This ponytail is supposed to be high on the head. Hairstylist Marcus Francis uses a flat iron to smooth out the hair and make the strands and crown extremely straight. Twist a section of hair around the elastic band to make the ponytail look natural. No one really needs to see the elastic. For a night on the town, use some hair extensions to create volume in the ponytail and a more high fashion style.
Retro Ponytail
A center part mixes modern with back in the day style. As recommended by hairstylist Steven Mason, apply mousse to damp hair and blow dry it into a center part. Use hot rollers or a large band curling iron to set hair. Be sure to style the hair away from the face for lift and volume, according to Mason. Use hairspray for extra hold. Pull your hair into a low ponytail. Swing it to one side and over the shoulder for added appeal.
