Finding the perfect fit for lingerie isn't easy. But, It's worth the time it takes to find the right fit because you wear some form of lingerie almost every day -- and your clothes are only as comfortable as what's underneath them. Know your measurements, weight and height, since brand sizing changes depending on the item you're buying. And never forget, there's no substitute for trying a piece on before handing over your credit card.
Bras
1.
Put on a bra without padding. Take a deep breath and exhale -- you want all the air out of your lungs.
2.
Measure your ribcage directly under your breasts. If you don't get a whole number, round up to the nearest one.
3.
Add 4 inches to the measurement if it's an even number, and 5 inches to the measurement if it's an odd number to get your total band size.
4.
Measure around the fullest part of your breasts. Round up to the nearest whole number, if necessary.
5.
Find the difference between the first and second measurement. If your band size is 32 and you add 4, your total band size is 36. If your breast measurement was 40, subtract 36 from 40 for a difference of 4.
6.
If the difference between the band size and your breast measurment is between 0 and one-half inch, you wear a AA cup. If there's a 4-inch difference, you wear a D cup. Beginning with 1-inch for an A-cup, each subsequent 1-inch difference denotes a new cup size.
Panties and Slips
1.
Measure your waist at the thinnest point -- usually around your belly button -- above your hips.
2.
Measure your hips at the widest point.
3.
Place the end of the measuring tape at your belly button and measure to where you would want a slip to stop so you know the length of slip you need.
4.
Check sizing charts for panties using your waist and hip measurements to get accurately sized panties. Use your hip, waist and length measurements for half-slips and bra, hip, waist and length measurements for full slips.
Stand up proud and tall when you measure yourself. Don't pull the measuring tape super tight to reduce your inches -- it'll just make your lingerie fit wrong.
It's totally okay to go with a new look from time to time -- maybe cheetah print when you're a black lace girl -- but don't compromise on fit. Undergarments will make your clothes look funny if they're not right. Lingerie won't look as sexy if it's too loose, not supportive or gives you a muffin top.
