A collared shirt, vest and slacks are a smart pick for business casual dining.

When you work in business casual setting, you can head straight from your desk to the dining room in a business casual restaurant without cutting yourself loose of your work duds. Yet, if you're clueless when it comes to this type of dress code, get the lowdown and then build your own outfits from there. Simply put, business casual is somewhere in-between what you'd wear on the weekend when hanging out, and what you'd wear when you want to look your best.

Outfits

Pantsuits or matching jackets and skirts would fit the bill at a business casual restaurant. Show up for the meal in a tailored, fitted version of either these two outfits to give yourself an all-business style and attitude. Shy away from the brights -- basic, neutral hues are the way to roll in this setting. Think black, navy or charcoal gray.

Separates

If you're not into the matchy-matchy style, mix it up with separates to create an original outfit that will leave you perfectly polished for business casual dining. Kick it off with a dressy top with a collar. No cleavage baring styles, please. Pick a color that's nice and neutral. Leave those wild, colorful prints in the dust. Marry the top with a black, blue, navy, brown or even pinstripe pair of slacks or skirt. Go for a flattering fit. Steer clear of anything that's terribly tight, big and baggy or too short. For skirts, make sure that hemline hits the top of your knee. Don't dare sashay into the place in a miniskirt.

Jewelry

Adding jewelry to your outfit is a must, but stay with simple -- never over the top. If you're into large pieces of bling, like a power necklace or a wide cuff bracelet, stop there and go small with any other pieces you put on. Think stud earrings and one -- or maybe two -- rings. Save those fun quirky pieces like dangly earrings and colorful necklaces for other outings. You want your jewelry to add a little something to your outfit, not blow it away.

Shoes

Nix any kicks you wouldn't dare wear to the business casual office -- flip flops, stilettos, casual sandals, slides, tennis shoes, clogs -- for your nosh at a business casual restaurant. Instead, pay tribute to the classic pump or a peep-toe. Flats or heels work, and so do heeled boots.
