The ballet isn't the uber-formal occasion it used to be, meaning elegant ball gowns are out and shorter dresses are in. However, don't settle for any old dress; still keep your look dressy with nice fabrics and a pair of tights. Since you're going out in the daytime, try lighter and brighter colors to really make your outfit jump out leaps and bounds.
Fortunately for gals headed to the ballet, ballerina-inspired clothing has gotten popular in recent years. Try out a ballerina skirt with a silk or satin top for an ultra-feminine outfit. Complete your look with hip flower-patterned tights and platform pumps. Accessorize with a thin necklace and bracelet to keep your outfit light and delicate. Go with light or neutral colors for this look to stay fresh and airy looking.
Long Dresses and Skirts
While ball gowns aren't the best choice for a daytime ballet performance, light-colored maxi dresses will work better for gals who want to wear longer pieces. Choose a white, cream or peach color in a satin or silk material that drapes the floor. Pair your maxi dress with strappy high heels to add to your look. Don't forget gold, silver or brightly colored blues or purples for your jewelry.
Short Dresses and Skirts
If you've got the legs, then flaunt them! Go with a shorter dress or skirt for your ballet debut. However, short dresses and skirts should not double as Vegas club attire. Instead, ensure that your dress reaches to your mid-thigh or even a bit longer to stay on the safe side. Additionally, dresses and skirts should not be too tight, as the ballet is still a formal event. Always wear tights underneath your shorter skirts and dresses and keep heels at a modest height.
Sometimes a gal just wants to wear pants, which is perfectly find for a daytime ballet. However, jeans may not be appropriate for this occasion. Instead, choose a nice linen or other flowy material to wear to the ballet. A wide leg is a chic alternative to traditional boot cut pants and goes well with super high heels. Pair your pants with a matching top or a bold color in a similar material. Don't forget to add a chunky bracelet and necklace to help your outfit pop.
