Overview
Bruce Makowsky handbags are renowned for their soft, supple leather and fashion-forward designs. With jazzy animal print linings and great details, a B. Makowsky handbag is one you'll want to care for. But even with the best of treatment, your leather Makowsky will eventually need cleaning. Whether your handbag's leather is looking last-season dull or simply needs a little spot treatment, taking a few steps can help you make it look as good as new.
Basic Handbag Cleaning
1.
Clean your B. Makowsky handbag on a regular basis to protect the natural leather. Shake out the interior and use a lint brush if necessary to remove any particles stuck to the lining. Gently wipe off any dirt or residue on the outside of the bag with a clean, soft cloth.
2.
Use alcohol-free baby wipes or specialty leather wipes to clean the outside of your leather bag. Do not scrub or use water, as these can damage the leather.
3.
In the case of a spill or other stain, apply leather creme immediately. The faster you treat the stain, the better chance you have of removing it. Blot the stain with a clean cloth, then carefully apply a small amount of leather creme onto a clean cloth. Rub the creme in a circular motion into the affected leather until the stain fades.
4.
Wipe off any excess creme with the cloth and allow the bag to dry naturally. If desired, finish by buffing and polishing the metal hardware with a clean cloth.
If your bag has been exposed to water, allow it to air dry away from light or heat before cleaning.
If using them for the first time on your bag, spot test alcohol-free baby wipes or specialty leather wipes on an inconspicuous patch of leather. Wipe and let dry. If no color has transferred to the wipe and the leather appears unchanged after drying, the wipes should be safe to use on your handbag.
Some stains may resist gentle cleaning. If your stain is persistent, take your handbag to a professional leather cleaner rather than attempt to scrub or apply potentially damaging cleansing products to it. They could destroy the finish or alter the color of the leather.
