Feathered hair may conjure images of Farrah Fawcett's fabulous '70s-style wings. These days, though, feathering isn't just a nod to coifs of decades past but a way to give limp locks movement and shape. Ladies with short 'dos can rock a great feathered look just as well as gals with longer tresses. Not sure which short feathered 'do is right for you? Get the 411 before you switch up your style.
Short Feathered Bob
Unlike a straight bob, which typically is all one length, a feathered bob involves loads of wispy layers. Gals who can't normally wear a short bob, like those with square or round faces can totally rock the feathered version because wispy layers around the face both slim down cheeks and round out square features. If you have a round face, opt for a feathered bob with longer layers to lengthen. Ladies with long or square faces should go for feathered bobs with short layers that are concentrated on the upper part of the hair. Feathered bobs can be worn with both blunt or side swept bangs.
Longer than a pixie cut but shorter than a bob, the textured crop is great for gals who want to go short, but not too short. This rock n' roll 'do, is super textured with wispy fringe and a tapered back. A textured crop looks great on ladies with round, oval, long and square faces. Those with heart-shaped faces should skip this look as it will only make your head look top heavy.
Ladies who adore a short, brazen 'do should consider a feathered pixie. This super cropped cut with loads of razored layers is great for hair that's thin or limp as it adds shape and the appearance of volume. Know though, that a look this short leaves you with nothing to hide. Just like a feathered crop, a feathered pixie looks fab on round, oval, square and long faces. Add even more depth to a feathered pixie with highlights and lowlights. Or be really bold and do your pixie cut up in a bold color like jet black or platinum blonde.
If committing to a full-on feathered 'do isn't your style, try dipping your toe into the water with feathered bangs. Feathered bangs can be side swept or parted in the middle, depending on your preference. Wear feathered bangs with a cropped cut, blunt bob, inverted bob or pixie cut. Feathered bangs look best on round, square or triangular faces. Round faces should wear longer feathered bangs to slim out cheeks. Square and triangular faces should cut short, feathered bangs to soften sharp angles and minimize a wide forehead.
