Bring a spring to your step while you wear plaid shorts. No longer relegated to the golf course, you can wear plaid shorts with casual shoes or pair them with high heels for a glamorous look.
Casual
Whether you're planning a trip to the beach, or hanging out low key style, Vans, Converse Chucks or plain white canvas pumps are straightforward complements to plaid shorts. Bring a '50s vibe with a pair of short socks. Your shorts can either be properly short bottom grazers, or wear them modestly down to the knee. Alternatively, flip-flops or flats are fun on the fly.
A Little Bit Rock
Plaid shorts needn't be all caddy-shack, you can ride them all the way out to a punk locale. Instead of lighter plaids, check out tartan plaids with a red, black and green theme. Coordinate the look with a black shirt and belt. Fishnet tights will banish any preppy thoughts. Strappy biker boots, straight black pumps or even a pair of black Mary-Janes work well with bold, tartan plaids.
Utility Chic
Khaki plaid shorts can channel an urban vibe and are suited to androgynous footwear. Get a long pair of over the knee socks and ruche them down to calf length. Complete this look with a Cuban-heeled boot or mid-calf boots. Black or brown boots pair well with muted plaid shorts.
Dressy
The plaid short can, of course, look sexy, sassy and glam. Check for styles that are brighter in color, or made in a lush fabric such as satin. Naturally this style calls for slinkier shoes, so keep them high and feminine. A pair of black strappy sandals will suit a multitude of styles. For something a little more left-field, opt for a cracking pair of uber-platforms or go wild in wedges.
