The maxi dress has been in style for seasons and doesn't seem to be on its way out any time soon. You'd think finding the perfect dress would be the hard part, but pairing shoes with those long frocks is sometimes even more difficult. Pick the right pair to perfectly finish off your look.
Get Some Height
Because they're so long, maxi dresses make even the tallest woman look more diminutive. For ladies with lots of height this may not be a problem, but for the more vertically challenged, looking shorter usually isn't the goal. If you need more height, slip on a pair of heels with your maxi. This will counteract the illusion of looking shorter.
If you don't mind looking a bit shorter, flats can definitely be paired with your maxi and actually can look very charming. This look still is going to work better the taller you are, so just keep that in mind when pairing your shoes with the dress.
Finding the Perfect Shoe
Maxi dresses are super summery, so you'll want a shoe that has that same warm weather aesthetic. Whether you go for a heel or a flat, stick with strappy shoes and sandals. If you want more height but still want your tootsies to be comfy, wear a wedge. Not only does it look incredibly chic and perfectly on trend, but it'll give you some added height sans the pain that can be inflicted by wearing a heel.
The Right Length
Now that you've got your shoe game together, you'll have to make sure that your dress is the right length for the shoe. If you're wearing your maxi with flats, you'll want the hem of the dress to fall at your ankle. If you opt for heels, the dress will need to hang about 1/4 inch from the floor. The wrong length dress will make any maxi/shoe combo look bad. So, get the right length, pair it with the perfect shoe and you're all set to be a style star this spring!
